First let me explain the name of this newsletter: Bread and Roses, we must have bread and we must have roses too.
From Wikipedia:
Helen Todd [explains] the phrase "Bread for all, and Roses too" expresses the soul of the women's movement and explains the meaning of the phrase in her speech. Not at once; but woman is the mothering element in the world and her vote will go toward helping forward the time when life's Bread, which is home, shelter and security, and the Roses of life, music, education, nature and books, shall be the heritage of every child that is born in the country, in the government of which she has a voice.
— Helen Todd, 1910.[1]
Bread
I love talking about politics. That’s the “Bread” part of this newsletter. I’m a liberal but I think I come at things from a slant that’s off-kilter to the middle of mainstream liberal thought. I am very unkind to Covid-19 and climate change deniers. I’m especially unkind to people who think someone told them it was okay to be vicious and cruel to other people.
I have lots of opinions. Enough opinions to go around. No need for shoving.
Roses & Coaching
The “Roses?” I am a life coach and I help people teach themselves how to have a happy, peaceful life, but I know that probably needs to be seen to be believed. I’ve seen it. I believe it. I’m going to be talking about how to do that.
Roses & Etc.
And I’ll also talk about pretty much anything I happen to be thinking about. I once wrote an article analyzing the Jack Reacher novels. It or something, like it, will probably show up here eventually. I might even throw in a recipe now and then. Would a recipe be under “Bread” or “Roses”? My chocolate bon-bon recipe bridges that divide.
Oh, yes, and memes. Love them, Internet World! Keep them coming! Cats or puppies saying clever, funny things. Love them! Or skewer corrupt ideologies in an entertaining way. Absolutely!
